My story is that 20 years ago, I had radiation therapy due to cancer. That caused all of the dental issues. I have a dry mouth which was causing my teeth to rot, break. I couldn’t even eat like mashed potatoes. I had a hard time brushing because every time I would brush my teeth, I would break one. Flossing was out of the question, couldn’t do that either because if I did, I’d break them. So it was a long journey.

Beth came to our office because she had a broken tooth and she was hurting. After talking to Beth, we realized that she had gone through throat cancer chemotherapy radiation. And little by little one tooth at a time she was just coming in getting teeth taken out. We talked about different options of treatment and because of her radiation, we had to take a step at a time.
The first thing we did is talk about her comfort. So someone like Beth, dental sedation is a necessary treatment. We started talking about sedation. We got her medical clearance and we did immediate dentures so she can go home with her beautiful smile. When she came back for her follow-up, she cried.
Beth:
The first time. I walked into the office, I was nervous. I was very nervous because I have been to other dental offices, trying to get a smile makeover. And other ones didn’t, the dentist weren’t really wanting to pull teeth and do what Dr. Hetal Amin-Patel did. But it didn’t take long for all of her staff and her to make me feel welcome. I think, what stands out the most even today is that they just genuinely care about the patients. They want to talk to you. They want to make you feel welcome. And you don’t always get that when you go into medical practice of any kind. But especially to their office because people are not wanting to go to the dentist.
There is that hesitation. There’s that fear. And fear is something that is not easy to overcome and they help you. A smile to me means confidence. It means that you feel good about you and your appearance. A smile can be a welcoming feature. I’d love to see people smile because when you do that, you’re allowing people to be happy and see you happy. A smile is just a wonderful thing and you don’t realize it until you don’t have it.
